PhpMyVisites

phpMyVisites is a great site statistics tool which died for no reason after running for just half a month. It was great while it lasted, giving me surprising site and page visitor results.

Given that I will soon move to a new, up-to-date server, I am not going to give it another try for the time being. There are a few other interesting statistics applications which require server settings I can't provide for now, so I wait until after the upgrade to compare more statistics applications on the same platform.

Keep It Cool

I recently was given a Sharp Actius UM30W thin laptop with technical problems such as sudden shutdowns, display flickering and an unstable network connection. My task was to find out what the problem causes are as well as get the system re-installed, if possible.

The picture shows clearly the reason for the sudden shutdowns: overheating. Given there is no hot air coming out, it's either that this model has no fan and something's wrong with the thermal layers between sink and CPU, or the fan is broken and still the possibility of some thermal material damage. I had to put the laptop into my fridge for the most demanding jobs or it would virtually die and require a hardware reset. I know, it's not recommended given the risk of the humid air outside the fridge condensing on and inside the computer.

Ohloh Projects

General Trackbacks (0)

Given I am a frequent user of ohloh and I have earned a respectable ohloh rankth (out of 10) rank with my project additions and edits, I've created this post which I will update whenever I add a new project to ohloh's directory. This is only a list of new projects (and their ID); you may also like to see my stack list for a collection of projects I am interested in. I am not involved in the development of these projects, I merely list and use them (customizations and such alike).
