OTRS 2.2 Broken FAQ Package

Communication Trackbacks (0)

The latest release of OTRS is no different to previous releases: it comes with problems to be solved by users unless one has the patience to wait for some patches weeks later.

In short, upgrading from 2.1.x to 2.2.x goes smooth for as long as the FAQ package is not upgraded:

  1. Backup installation.
  2. Upgrade (new install with old database and config).
  3. Reinstall all old packages.
  4. Upgrade all packages EXCEPT for FAQ which when jumping from 1.0.18 to current 1.2.4 breaks due to some bad/missing script parameters. (check for new package release)

Unless there's a newer than 1.2.4 FAQ package, don't upgrade it. Except for the public access, all FAQ content will disappear (due to some bad group permission settings).

About Components, Modules...

Determining the nature of plugins, modules, components, blocks and bots can be a bit confusing nowadays. Various Content Management Systems (CMS) use various definitions and often a module in software A is not called module in software B at all. Switching from the *nuke branch (PostNuke, PHPNuke...) over to Joomla! gave me quite a headache at first.
