Snap Preview Thumbnails

Tools Trackbacks (0)

If you want to enhance the experience of browsing your web sites, just add "Snap" to it. It's free, fast, requires only a little script to be added anywhere within the body area of your page and everything works automatically.

Lots of stuff to customize; for example on this blog, all external links are marked with a little icon which shows a link target preview thumbnail.

On the user-side, if you quickly hoover the mouse onto the preview box, you can use a global search engine and customize or even disable it.

Good example: Links page of this blog.

EGroupWare: Big Improvement

PM Trackbacks (0)

eGroupWare's latest release is a huge leap forwards. I'm not sure nor do I care why the version numbering jumped from 1.2 to 1.4 but it's nothing unfelt when taking a closer look at the new edition.

In short, all important modules previously handled separately are now included in the core installation; a one-time install gives you everything necessary to do a good project management. What's left to be added manually is a Gallery2 port (might be useful for design reviews) and an iCal server.

LifeType And Plugins

CMS Trackbacks (0)

LifeTypeLifeType seems not to like plugins at all, unless they are ported to the latest LifeType maintenance releases as well. So for now, I'm back to release 1.2.1 until I get the mood to do a full install of 1.2.2 including all plugins. What a waste of time...

Running LifeType 1.2.1 with 1.2.x plugins and templates, I ran into the "cannot redeclare" problem after applying the upgrade package.

  • Everything related to summary.php works fine.
  • admin.php outputs this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare smarty_block_dynamic() (previously declared in /var/www/html/class/template/template.class.php:31) in /var/www/html/class/template/template.class.php on line 31
  • index.php and direct-calls to blogs from summary give this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class menu in /var/www/html/class/template/menu/menu.class.php on line 25

Also, I noticed that url rewriting doesn't work anymore. A call to /1_blogname is ok but a call to /blog/blogname no more.

Vtiger Update

CRM Trackbacks (0)

Customer Relationship Managment (CRM) software Vtiger finally released the long awaited (7 months and 1 day to be precise) maintenance upgrade from version 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 a few days ago. Users became increasingly nervous and even some rumors of its future started to spread.

It's definately worth the wait: over 1100 bugs have been fixed and no new functions added (that's actually a good thing: no new functions means no new bugs). Thus, 5.0.3 has finally become what 5.0.1 was supposed to be: a stable version 5. Now we're looking forward to the next release with improved and new functions as well.

I'm maintaining an installation running on Xampplite, and the upgrade went smoothly. However, language packs continue to pose a problem as not many are available for 5.x and even less for 5.0.3 with most of that being for 5.0.3-RCx. They are so-so for a final 5.0.3 but I'd rather want to see more development in that area as well.
